Local Information

St John’s, the capital and largest city of Newfoundland, is a fantastic place to live. With beautiful scenery all around and lots of local history, residents can build a rich life here. It is both the oldest and the most easterly city in North America, and as such, has built up a distinct personality.

While St. John’s is known for its colourful and picturesque homes, there is much more to discover in the area. From breathtaking natural wonders to cultural festivals, there is plenty to do and see in and around St. John’s.

In fact, there is so much variety that everyone can find something to enjoy here. There are fascinating sites for history buffs, ecological reserves for nature lovers, mouthwatering restaurants for foodies, lively events for socialites and much, much more. You can discover some of these amazing places and experiences on our blog.

Over 500 Years of History

With a history stretching back to 1497, St John’s has spent a long time growing into the unique community that it is today. That depth of history is quickly apparent when you wander through the city’s winding streets. Passing rows of historic buildings perched above the harbour below, you will feel like little has changed in this still-bustling port city.

Wedding the Old and the New

Although St. John’s embraces its history, it is far from stuck in the past. Nowadays, real estate in the area offers the perfect mix of modern city life and the warm community spirit of village life. There is every amenity you could ask for here plus a rich and thriving cultural life. Catch one of the many performances of art, music and theatre, or visit one of the yearly festivals taking place in St. John’s, such as the Nickel Independent Film Festival or the Royal St. John’s Regatta.

St John’s Metropolitan Area

In addition to the beautiful houses for sale in St John’s itself, there is also lots of popular Newfoundland real estate in Torbay, Paradise, Mount Pearl, Conception Bay South, and the Avalon Peninsula. Torbay, on the Avalon Peninsula’s east side, is a fast growing town within the St John’s metropolitan area. There are many lovely homes for sale in Torbay and Paradise, NL.

Torbay

Torbay is another beautiful town on the Avalon Peninsula. It’s a small place (around 7,000 people) but one with a rich history. It is also one of the fastest growing communities in Newfoundland. Just as old as the larger St. John’s, this town enjoys a similar landscape to that of its English namesake.

Paradise

What could be better than living in Paradise? One of the newer communities in the St. John’s area, it now has a population of 18,000. Although it began as a purely residential neighbourhood, Paradise now has everything you could want from a city — with amenities and a cultural life all of its own.

Mount Pearl

With easy access to all of the amenities in St. John’s itself, Mount Pearl offers an escape from the bustle. Known for its many parks and other green spaces, this is the perfect place for nature lovers to settle down. In addition, it is only a short distance from St. John’s International Airport.

Conception Bay South

Known locally as CBS, Conception Bay South grew up as a fishing community — in fact, the world’s largest tuna was caught here! That’s not all CBS has to offer, though. As well as sweeping views, residents enjoy lots of water sports, festivals, and other activities.
